CLEVELAND, Ga. – #7 William Carey Beach Volleyball wrapped up their Georgia road trip with conference wins over St. Andrews and Truett McConnell and a non-conference win over Bob Jones.
In their first match on Friday, the Lady Crusaders battled back from a 0-2 deficit to defeat St. Andrews 3-2. After dropping flight four and five,
Mary Katherine Ashburn and
Elaina Anderson kept WCU alive with a three set victory in flight three.
Reagan Huff and
Carly Merry tied the match with a 21-10, 21-8 victory in flight two. The match would come down to flight one and the duo of
Rachel Hartmann and
Kacey Lear. Lead and Hartmann wasted no time securing the comeback victory for Carey with a 21-14, 21-10 win.
In the second match on Friday, WCU left little to doubt, defeating Bob Jones 4-1. After trading points in flight four and five the Lady Crusaders picked up wins in flights one, two, and three for the win.
On Saturday against Truett McConnell, Carey once again staved off defeat, with another comeback victory defeating the Bears 3-2. The Lady Crusaders once again found themselves down 0-2 after dropping flight four and five. Anderson and Ashburn kept things going for WCU with a 21-16, 21-17 win in flight three.
Just like in their match against St. Andrews, Merry and Huff picked up a 21-13, 21-9 win in flight two to tie the match at two. Hartmann and Lear had their hands full in flight one. After taking the first set 21-15 the Bears forced the deciding third set with a 21-19 win in set two. After going back forth in the third set, Hartmann and Lear made their move pulling away for a 15-11 win to complete the comeback.
Carey is back in action Tuesday, March 21, as they travel to Mobile, Ala. to take on Mobile and Loyola in Sun Conference action.
