Crusaders Take Series Against Campbellsville

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The William Carey Baseball team took game three against Campbellsville 13-9, Sunday afternoon at Milton Wheeler Field to take the series.

After a couple of scoreless innings, RJ Stinson led off the bottom of the third with a double to right center followed by an RBI single by Patrick Lee to put Carey on the board.  The Crusaders were not done, as Caleb Laird delivered a RBI double and Brady Wilson followed with a RBI single to center to make it 3-0.

The Tigers answered in the top of the fourth with two solo homeruns but Carey responded in the bottom half of the inning with five runs.  A bases loaded walk by Lee plated the first run for WCU and Jake Lycette sent a shot down the right field line scoring two runs.  The final runs of the frame would come via wild pitches giving Carey an 8-2 advantage.

The Crusaders stretched their lead even further in the sixth with a two run homerun by Billy Garrity and a three run shot by Braydon Coffey to go up by 11 runs.  CU kept things alive scoring two runs in the top of the seventh on solo homeruns and then plating four runs in the eighth to cut the deficit to 13-8.  The Tigers then threatened in the ninth inning pushing one run across before relief pitcher John Snyder induced a harmless fly ball to left with the bases loaded to end the threat.

Connor Adams picked up the win on the mound, going six innings, allowing two runs on four hits with five strikeouts.

WCU is back in action Friday, February 10, as they take on Culver-Stockon College in a four game series.  First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 pm at Milton Wheeler Field.
