Crusaders Take Two From Culver-Stockton

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The William Carey Baseball team opened up a four game series against Culver-Stockton with a double header sweep, Friday night at Milton Wheeler Field.

It was an offensive showing in the first game, as both teams combined for 21 runs and 19 hits.  The Wildcats struck first with a three run homer in the top of first inning.  However, Carey answered in the bottom half of the inning.  Patrick Lee got things rolling with a two run shot to center.  Braydon Coffey put WCU ahead on a two RBI single to center and Rigoberto Hernandez made it 5-3 Crusaders with a RBI single to right.

CSC got one run back in the second and added three more in the third to take 7-5 lead.  Just like in the first inning, Carey had the answer as Hernandez delivered another RBI, this time on a fielder's choice and RJ Stinson came through with a three run home run to right field.

The Wildcats kept up with the Crusaders, retaking the lead 10-9 in the top of the fourth with three runs on 1 hits and an error.  However, the lead would be short lived as, Preston Ratliff led off the bottom of the fourth will a solo homerun to tie things at 10 all.  Billy Garrity would deliver what would be the game winner in the bottom of the fifth on a fielder's choice that scored RJ Stinson

Lane Jarreau picked up the win on the mound after going three innings in relief and not allowing a hit.

The Crusader bats stayed hot in game two, as WCU plated eight runs on four hits and two errors in the first to take the early lead.

Garrity drove in the first runs of the inning with a triple to center and would score on a throwing error to make it 3-0.  The second error of the inning allowed two more runs to cross the plate with RJ Stinson making it 6-0 with an RBI single to left.  Lee drove in the final two runs of the inning with a triple to centerfield.

WCU starting pitcher AJ Stinson was cruising along not allowing a hit over the first three innings before surrendering his first hit which happened to be a two run shot to right.  The Wildcats would add two more runs in the fifth but Carey answered with five runs in the bottom half the inning, to extend their lead to 13-4.  The Crusaders would put the game away for good with a two run homerun by RJ Stinson and a two RBI single by Ty Little for the final margin.

AJ Stinson picked up the win for Carey on the mound, going six innings allowing four runs on three hits while striking out 13.

The Crusaders are back in action today as they wrap up the series.  First pitch is scheduled for 12:30 pm at Milton Wheeler Field.
