HATTIESBURG, Miss. – It was a tale of two halves but the William Carey Women's Basketball team came out victorious, with a 69-60 decision over Life University, Thursday night at Clinton Gym.
Life got off to quick start, racing out to a 9-2 advantage just two minutes into the contest. The Lady Crusaders halted the run and found their stride, outscoring the Running Eagles 17-4, over the next eight minutes.
After being held to just two points over the first four minutes of the second quarter, a
Rebekah Engle three pointer at the six minute mark, sparked the WCU offense to the tune of a 45-23 lead heading into the break.
Things were much different coming out the break. Life clamped down on the defensive end, forcing five turnovers in the quarter and 11 in the fourth. On the offensive end, the Running Eagles outscored WCU 37-24 and getting within seven points with just over a minute to play. However, the Lady Crusader defensive stepped up holding LU scoreless over the final minute to preserve the win.
Rebekah Engle led the offense finishing with 24 points and nine rebounds.
Lauren Rowley added 15 points while
Kolten Blakeney finished with 12 points.
WCU is back in action Tuesday, February 7, as they take on the University of Mobile in SSAC play. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 pm at Clinton Gym.
