HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The William Carey Baseball team managed to split the Saturday double against Clarke University, dropping game one 5-1 but taking game two 11-2, at Milton Wheeler Field.
After dropping the first two games of the series, the Crusader offense finally came to life in the fifth inning of game three. Down 2-0,
Caleb Laird got things rolling with an RBI single to center and bases loaded single by
RJ Stinson would give Carey the lead.
A defensive miscue by the Pride would score another and
Jake Lycette would make it 6-2 with a two RBI double to center. The final run of the frame would come on a
Billy Garrity RBI single to right. The Crusaders would add to their lead in the eighth, as Laird and
Rigoberto Hernandez each drove in two runs for the final margin.
Lane Jarreau was brilliant on the mound in relief going 5.2 innings allowing just two hits with six strikeouts to pick up the win.
Carey is back in action Tuesday, February 28, as they take on Bryant & Stratton College. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 pm at Milton Wheeler Field.
