Game Recap: Softball |

Lady Crusaders Sweep LSU-Alexandria

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - #12 William Carey Softball swept a Sunday afternoon double header against LSU-Alexandria, taking both games 1-0, at Joseph & Nancy Fail Field.

Both games saw stellar pitcher performances but it was the Lady Crusaders who managed to make the most of their opportunities.

In game one, both pitchers were dialed in but in the fourth inning, WCU finally got something going.  Back to back singles and a walk would load the bases with one out.  Albanie Fussell then delivered what would be the game winner with a RBI groundout.

Haley Nations took care the rest, retiring nine straight batters to preserve the 1-0 victory.  Nations finished the game allowing only three hits with 11 strikeouts to pick up the win.

Game two was just like the first except this time Carey was held without a hit.  The lone run of the game came in the fourth as a lead-off walk by Dee Dee West followed by a costly defensive miscue by the Generals allowed West to advance to third.  Once again it was Fussell who delivered the game winner on a RBI groundout.

LSUA saw their best chance of the game come in seventh, as they got back to back singles then a sac bunt to put runners on second and third with one out.  However, starting pitcher Ryanne Hornsby induced back to back fly balls to the infield to end the threat and pick up the win.

WCU is back in action tomorrow as they take on Louisiana Christian in non-conference action.  First pitch of the double header is scheduled for 3:00 pm at Joseph & Nancy Fail Field.
