HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The William Carey Men's Basketball team season came to an end Saturday afternoon, falling 78-76 Saturday afternoon to Middle Georgia State at Clinton Gym.
Things were close from the start with both teams taking turns with the lead but with 10 to play, a layup by
TJ Ward sparked an 11-3 run by the Crusaders to give them a 28-21 lead with four to play. However, over the next two minutes MGA settled in cutting the lead to 34-31 but Carey answered closing the half on a 9-3 run to take a 43-34 lead into the break.
WCU opened the second half with a
Josiah Moore jumper but over the next 10 minutes Carey was held to just five points as the Knights took a 59-50 lead. The Crusaders would eventually get things going offensively, battling back to within a 78-76 deficit with 20 seconds to play. With time winding down Carey had two chances to take the lead but both shots missed their mark.
WCU ends the season with a 7-20 overall record and a 3-16 record in SSAC play.
