WALESKA, Ga. – The William Carey Baseball team opened play in the Southeast Rumble hosted by Reinhardt University, with a 12-3 victory over Taylor University.
Patrick Lee got the Crusaders going in the third inning, scoring
Rigoberto Hernandez with a double to center.
Jake Lycette followed with a RBI and then a wild pitch would allow another run to score to give Carey a 3-0 lead.
Preston Ratliff led off the fourth with a solo homerun but Taylor cut the lead back to three with a run in the bottom of the fifth.
The WCU offense dealt the biggest blow of the game in the sixth with five runs to take a 9-1 lead. A wild pitch and a RBI groundout by Hernandez would plate two with Lee delivering the final runs on a three run blast to left center.
The Trojans managed to get another run in the bottom of the sixth but Carey stretched their lead back to eight in the seventh on a RBI double by
Caleb Laird.  TU once again managed to push a run across in the eighth but just like before the Crusaders answered in the ninth with a sac fly by Hernandez and a RBI single by
RJ Stinson for the final margin.
AJ Stinson picked up the win on the mound, going six innings allowing two runs, one hit, and recorded seven strikeouts.
Carey is back in action tomorrow, as they continue play in the Southeast Rumble, taking on Point Park University.  First pitch is slated for 1:00 pm at Ken White Baseball Field.
