WALESKA, Ga. – The William Carey Baseball team pounded out 17 hits and scored 16 runs, as they defeated Point Park University, Sunday afternoon at Ken White Field.
After giving up a run in the top of the first, the Crusaders left little to doubt, scoring seven runs on six hits, in the bottom of the first inning.
Patrick Lee dealt the first blow with a two run shot to left field and
Billy Garrity made it 4-0 with a two RBI double to center. The final runs of the frame would come on a sac fly by
Rigoberto Hernandez and a two RBI double by
RJ Stinson.
Carey would add two more runs in the third on RBIs by
Brady Wilson and Stinson. WCU would stretch their lead even further in the fourth, making it 12-1, scoring three runs on five hits and an error. The Crusaders added a run in the fifth and three more in sixth to take a commanding 16-1 lead. The Pioneers attempted a rally in the seventh scoring four runs but relief pitcher
Lane Jarreau got the final out Carey needed to preserve the run rule victory.
Andrew Shirah picked up the win for WCU going six innings allowing one run on three hits with eight strikeouts.
RJ Stinson,
Patrick Lee, and
Brady Wilson all finished with three hits apiece and a combined eight RBIs.
Carey is back in action tomorrow as they take on Reinhardt University. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 pm at Ken White Field.
