MOBILE, Ala. – Coming off a loss a week ago, the William Carey Women's Basketball Team rebounded with an 88-76 victory over Spring Hill College Monday night.
The Badgers opened on a 10-4 run but six straight points by
Kolten Blakeney and
Shaneal Corpuz would tie the game with four minutes left in the first quarter. From there both teams traded shots with SHC taking an 18-17 lead into the second quarter.
Things remained close at the start of the second but a two point basket by
Lauren Rowley with under eight to play sparked a 12-3 run capped by a
Jenna Garriga three point basket to put the Lady Crusaders up 38-26 with under three minutes to play. Carey would push their lead to 14 before taking a 44-31 lead into the break.
Coming out of the break Spring Hill managed to cut the deficit to single digits multiple times but WCU quickly responded to push their lead back into double digits each time before stretching their lead to as many as 17 points down the stretch.
Kolten Blakeney led four Lady Crusaders in double figures with 22 points with
Lauren Rowley adding 15 points.
Shaneal Corpuz finished 14 points with
Leah Sutton having 12 points.
Carey is back in action Saturday, December 16, as they head to New Orleans, La. to take on Loyola University in SSAC action. Tip-off is scheduled for 12:00 pm.
