MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The William Carey Volleyball Team season came to an end Friday evening as they fell in the semi-finals of the SSAC Championship.
In their first match of the day against Life University both teams traded shots at the start but with the Running Eagles leading 10-8, the Lady Crusaders looked as if they took control going on a 7-0 run but LU halted the run and battled back to cut the deficit to 15-13.
However, WCU responded with 9-1 run to pull away for good taking the set 25-15. The second was much different as Carey got off to slow start falling behind 13-8. The Lady Crusaders found their footing and went on a 4-0 run to get within one point. From there WCU continued the attack eventually taking the lead 18-16.
The battle continued until the set was tied at 23 all. The Lady Crusaders would reach set point on an attack error and finish off the comeback with a kill by
Rachel Stegall to take a 2-0 lead. WCU carried the momentum over into the third set opening on an 8-2 run but like the first set Life answered with an 8-1 run to take the lead.
Both teams continued to trade shots but Carey would slowly pull away going on to take the set 25-22 and the match to reach the semi-finals.
In the semi-finals, Blue Mountain Christian proved too much as they defeated the Lady Crusaders 3-0.
