MONTGOMERY, Ala. – #1 William Carey Women's Soccer defeated Life University 2-0 Friday evening to win the 2023 SSAC Women's Soccer Championship, presented by Newk's Eatery.
 
Carey had some early chances but Grace Staunton would keep WCU off the board with five first half saves sending the game into the break scoreless. 
 
The Lady Crusaders kept pressing the attack and in the 66^th minute finally broke through the Running Eagles defense.  There was all kinds of action in front of the goal as the initial shot by Mariangela Jimenez was blocked but Karen Vilau was there to clean it up.
 
Five minutes later Carey would extend their lead as Virginia Mesa received the ball from Alexis Arnoult dribbled around a Life defender and fired it home.  Marlen Kelm did her part in goal coming up with four saves to preserve the shutout.
 
Carey will be back in action Saturday, November 18, as they host the Opening Round of the NAIA National Championship.
