MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The William Carey Volleyball Team picked up their fourth win in a row with a 3-1 victory of Faulkner University Friday night.
The Lady Crusaders got off to a shaky start in the first set, finding themselves down early and could not recover dropping the set 25-16. Carey got off to a much better start in the second set. After going back and forth at the start WCU slowly started to pull away building a 16-12 lead and never looked back taking the set 25-15.
Things were much closer in the third set, as both teams took turns at the start making runs only to see it disappear. With the set tied at 11 all, the Lady Crusaders slowly pulled away, building a 20-16 advantage. However the Eagles would not go away, battling back to get within one point on two occasions but WCU dug deep, holding off the Faulkner attack to take the set 25-23.
The Eagles came quickly in the fourth set building a 13-6 advantage. Carey regrouped and rallied for seven straight points to even the set at 13 all. Faulkner responded with a 5-1 run but once again WCU answered to tie the set again at 18.
But for the third time in the set the Eagles pulled away this time taking a 23 -19 lead. However the Lady Crusaders kept on battling and found the spark they needed closing the set on a 7-1 run to secure the win.
Rachel Stegall led the attack finishing with 19 kills and 13 digs while
Grace Engels added 13 kills.
Laura Almeida finished with 18 digs while
Lia Romas Bonilla and
Avery Durdin had 18 & 15 assists.
WCU is back in action Friday, October 13, as they head to Marietta, Ga. to take on Life University in conference action. First serve is slated for 5:00 pm.
