DALTON, Ga. –
Emile Kazeneza's jumper as time expired was the difference as, William Carey University defeated Dalton State College 74-72 Saturday afternoon.
The Crusaders got off to a slow start, finding themselves down 17-6, just seven minutes into the contest. Eventually, WCU found their footing and with four minutes remaining in the half, battled back to tie things at 26 all. From there both teams went back and forth with Dalton State taking a 38-36 lead into the break.
The second half was tight the whole way. With under two minutes remaining,
Willie Moody hit back to back three pointers to give the Crusaders a 70 -67 lead. However, the Roadrunners would not go quietly tying the game at 72 all with twelve seconds remaining. On the Crusaders final possession,
Casey Smith drove down the court and fed the ball to Kazeneza who then drained the pull up jumper as time expired for the win.
Casey Smith and
Willie Moody led the way finishing with 17 points each.
Arturro Bingham added 12 points while
Emile Kazeneza finished with 11 points.
WCU is back in action Thursday, January 12, as they travel to Mobile, Alabama, to take on the University of Mobile in SSAC play. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
