TALLADEGA, Ala. – The William Carey Men's Basketball team picked up an SSAC road win, defeating Talladega College 80-74 Saturday afternoon.
Things were back and forth from the start. But with the Tornadoes leading 30-29, TC closed the half on an 8-4 run to take a 38-33 lead into the break. Coming out of the break, the Crusaders quickly erased the deficit, taking a 48-46 lead after five minutes of play.
From there, WCU continued to press the attack, stretching their lead to 63-50 with eight minutes left to play. However, the Tornadoes made one last run, cutting the Carey lead to 70-67 with three minutes to play. The Crusaders answered with a three point basket by
Casey Smith to push the lead back to six and sealed the victory going 7-8 from the free throw line.
Earl Smith finished with a season high 30 points.
Willie Moody added 17 points while
Casey Smith finished with 14 points.
WCU is back in action Thursday, January 26, as they take on Loyola University in conference action. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 pm at Clinton Gym.
