HATTIESBURG, Miss. – After 15 games on the road to open the season, the Lady Crusaders returned home, defeating Talladega College in straight sets Friday night at the Ben Waddle Complex.
In the first set, with the score tied at nine all, WCU used a 6-1 run to pull away for good and take the set 25-15. The Lady Crusaders jumped out to an early 6-2 lead in the second set but the Tornadoes settled back in and reeled off four straight points to tie the set. With the score tied at 15 all, WCU seized control of the match, closing on a 10-1 run to take the set and a 2-0 lead.
In the third set, Carey wasted no time taking control of match, jumping out to a 10-2 lead. Talladega battled back to get within three points but could get no closer as the Lady Crusaders scored five straight points to push the lead to 18-10 and never looked back.
Mia Hague led the attack finishing with 13 kills with
Elaina Anderson adding 10 kills.
Rachel Hartmann finished with 25 assists and 10 digs while
Kacey Lear and
Jacey Garriga had 12 and 10 digs.
WCU is back in action Saturday, as they take on Life University in SSAC play. First serve is scheduled for 1:00 pm at the Ben Waddle Complex.
