NEW ORLEANS, La. – William Carey Women's Basketball team overcame a 15 point second half deficit Monday night to defeat Dillard University 70-65 in overtime.
The Lady Crusaders got off to a terrible start trialing 22-7 at the end of the first quarter and went into the half down 33-21. Things continued to look dire for WCU, as they were down 53-38 with six minutes to play.
Madelyn Ladner started the comeback with a layup and then
Rebekah Engle rattled off 10 straight points followed by a
Lauren Rowley layup to tie the game at 53 all.
Dillard halted the WCU run and eventually retook the lead 61-59. With just four seconds to play, Rowley went coast to coast to hit a pull up jumper in the lane at the buzzer to send the game to overtime. In the extra time, the Lady Crusaders jumped out to a quick lead to put the game away for good.
Lauren Rowley led the way, finishing with 24 points and seven rebounds while
Rebekah Engle added 23 points and eight rebounds.
WCU is back in action Thursday, December 1, as they head back to New Orleans, La. to take on Loyola University in SSAC play. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
