HATTIESBURG, Miss. - #5 William Carey opened play in the 2022 NAIA Women's Soccer National Tournament by defeatingKansas Wesleyan University 6-0 Thursday afternoon at
Danny Owens Field.
The Lady Crusaders wasted no time taking control of the game, as
Julia Herbst found
Maria Azarias in the box in the 19th minute to put WCU up 1-0. In the 27
th minute, Azarias picked up the assist on a goal by
Mariangela Jimenez. WCU capped the first half scoring in the 31
st minute on a goal by
Camila Pescatore from 35 yards out.
Carey would put the game away for good in the second half, as
Kauany Sousa went back to back with goals in the 56
th & 58
th minute with the final goal coming a minute later by Herbst.
WCU will now take on Columbia College on Saturday, November 19, in second round action. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:30 pm at
Danny Owens Field.
