HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The William Carey Women's Basketball team defeated Dillard University 68-58, Wednesday night at Clinton Gym.
After a back and forth start to the game, WCU built a five point lead on multiple occasions only to see Dillard get within one to end the first quarter. Things remained tight in the second quarter with Carey taking a 29-23 lead late in the quarter but a three point basket just before time expired by the Bleu Devils sent the game into the break with Carey leading 29-26.
Out the break the game remained tight until
Kyley Seals scored five straight points with two minutes left in the third to give the Lady Crusaders their largest lead of the game at 45-37. Dillard closed the gap to 45-41 but
Madelyn Ladner pushed the WCU lead to seven with a three point basket just before the end of the third quarter.
The Lady Crusader offense continued to apply the pressure in the fourth, stretching their lead to nine on multiple occasions. With two minutes left, Lander came up big with back to back steals and layups to push the lead to 13 to put the game away.
Ladner led the offense finishing with a game high 17 points.
Rebekah Engle added 12 points and eight rebounds with
Kolten Blakeney adding nine points and seven rebounds.
Lauren Rowley finished with eight points, eight assists, and seven rebounds.
WCU is back in action Saturday, November 12, as they take Louisiana Christian University. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 pm at Clinton Gym.
