Lady Crusaders Pick up Two Conference Road Wins

MARIETTA, Ga. – The William Carey Volleyball team picked up two conference road wins, defeating Talladega College 3-0 Friday night and Life University 3-0 Saturday afternoon.

Against the Tornadoes, the Lady Crusaders had their hands full in the first set.  WCU stretched their lead to four points multiple times only to see Talladega battle back to within one point.  With Carey holding a 23-22 lead, Reagan Huff provided the two kills WCU needed to take the set 25-23.  The Lady Crusader offense wasted no time in the second set, jumping out to an 18-9 lead and never looked back taking the set 25-15.

The Tornadoes would not go quietly, taking an early 14-10 lead in the third set.  However, WCU answered with nine straight points.  Just as it looked like WCU had things in control leading 23-18, Talladega rallied with six straight points to retake the lead.  From there both teams traded shots until Rachel Hartmann got a kill and an error by TC gave WCU the 34-32 win.

On Saturday against Life, Carey opened on an early five point lead then used a 7-0 run to take an 18-9 lead.  However, the Running Eagles mounted a comeback to get within two points but WCU halted the comeback with four straight points to take the set 25-19.  After a back and forth start to the second set, the Lady Crusaders pulled away to a 19-13 lead.  Life managed to cut the deficit to 22-19 but WCU got kills from Elaina Anderson and Huff to take the set and a 2-0 lead.

Carey found themselves playing catch up in the third set, until they went on an 11-4 run to take a 22-15 lead and never looked back taking the set 25-18 and the match.

Carey is back action Tuesday, October 25, as they take on Loyola University in SSAC action.  First serve is scheduled for 6:30 at the Ben Waddle Complex.
