Lady Crusaders Take Down Mobile 3-0

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The William Carey Volleyball team picked up a key SSAC win Friday night, defeating the University of Mobile 3-0, at the Ben Waddle Sports Complex.

The Lady Crusaders got off to a hot start, opening on a 7-3 run, but the Rams halted the run to get within two points on multiple occasions.  With Carey leading 10-8, they used a 6-0 run to take control of the set before going on to take the set 25-16.  The second set was a mirror image of the first, with WCU taking an early 5-2 lead only to see UM battle back to make it 10-9 WCU.  Once again the Lady Crusaders made their move with a 5-0 run to pull away eventually taking the set and a 2-0 lead.

The third set was nothing like the first two as both teams went back and forth with Mobile holding the largest lead of the set at 13-9.  From their WCU settled back in eventually retaking the lead 16-15.  Mobile countered, battling back to a 20-18 lead.  Just as it looked as if the Rams had the momentum on their side holding a 21-20 lead the Lady Crusaders rallied for four straight points to take the set 25-22 and the match.

Mia Hague led the attack finishing with 15 kills with Elaina Anderson coming in with 10 kills.  Rachel Hartmann finished with 22 assists and 12 digs while Kacey Lear had 15 digs.

Carey is back in action tomorrow as they take on Faulkner University in SSAC action.  First serve is scheduled for 1:00 pm at the Ben Waddle Complex.
