COCHRAN, Ga. – Lady Crusaders fall to Middle Georgia State in both games of a Saturday double header, falling 3-0 in game one and 3-2 in game two at Knights Field.
The Knights struck first, picking up back-to-back base hits with two outs in the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead. MGA added a couple of insurance runs in the fifth on two straight doubles by Madison Cosgrove and Grace Avery.
The three runs were more than enough for the Knights, as the Carey offense was held to five hits over seven innings of play.
Game two saw MGA again take the early lead with one run in the first on a sacrifice fly. However, the Carey offense got the timely hit they were missing in game one, as
Albanie Fussell drove in
Liz Cross on a two out single to center to tie the game.
The game would remain tied until the sixth, when the Lady Crusaders took advantage of a two out hit by pitch and wild pitch, as
Madison Gray put WCU ahead with an RBI single to right.
The Knights would not go quietly though and tied the game in the seventh on a bases loaded single and then completed the sweep on a hit by pitch.
Carey is back in action on Wednesday, April 9, as they return home to take on United States Sports Academy, Play is set to begin at 3:00 pm at Joseph & Nancy Fail Field.
