HATTIESBURG, Miss. – No. 7 William Carey improves to 27-7 on the season with a 6-0 victory over LSU-Alexandria Wednesday night at Milton Wheeler Field.
Back-to-back one out doubles by
DeeJay Booth and
Josh Alexander in the first inning, staked Carey to an early one run lead. The one run lead would hold until the sixth but not without some tense moments, as Carey starter
Cory Cook worked around runners in scoring in position in four of the six innings.
In the bottom half of the sixth inning, the Carey bats came to life, as
Preston Ratliff led off the inning with a double to left center and would come around to score on a single up the middle by
Eli Collins.
Tyler Ducksworth made it three straight hits in a row to put runners on second and third with
Jayden Mark following with an RBI single to left to make it 3-0 WCU. After a fly out to the infield for the first out of the inning,
Ty Little extended the Crusaders lead to four on a double down the right field line. The Generals would limit Carey to just the three runs, recording to two straight outs to leave the bases loaded.
The WCU offense was not done, as they would put the finishing touches on the game with two more runs. A bases loaded wild pitch scored
Cam Senior and after a walk reloaded the bases a sac fly by Alexander scored
Jerod Williams for the final margin.
Cory Cook picked up the win on the mound, allowing just two hits with eleven strikeouts in six innings of work.
Lane Jarreau and
Josh Taylor picked up where Cook left off, allowing one hit over the final three innings and striking out four batters.
Carey is back in action on Friday, April 4, as they take on Thomas University. Play is set to begin at 5:00 pm at Milton Wheeler Field.
