Crusaders Fall to #13 Faulkner

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – No. 7 William Carey fell 8-3 to No. 13 Faulkner University in the opening game of the three-game series.

"We can't spot a good team like that in the first two innings," said Head Coach Bobby Halford. "We must have a better start, but I was pleased how we hung in there and made a game out of it. We hit some balls really hard that was right at them all night. Just gave up too many free passes."

The Eagles jumped out quickly on the Crusaders, taking a five-run lead after two innings of play with two runs in the first and three in the second. Carey got on the board in the fourth inning on a Preston Ratliff solo home run to left.

The Crusaders inched closer in the seventh inning on a two out double by Josh Alexander, scoring Rigoberto Hernandez and Jerod Williams, but Faulkner answered in the bottom half of the frame to put the game away for good with three runs to take a five-run lead.

WCU is back in action tomorrow, as they wrap up the series with a double header beginning at 1:00 pm.
