Lady Crusaders Split with ABAC

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – No. 17 Lady Crusaders split a Saturday double header against Abraham Baldwin, taking game one 10-0 but falling in game two 9-0.

Game one saw Carey take an early 3-0 lead on back-to-back errors in the second inning and after a scoreless third inning, the Lady Crusaders offense exploded for seven runs on four hits in the fourth inning.

Julia Shaw drove in the first run, scoring Harper Dupre on a fielder's choice with Madison Prejean making it 5-0 WCU on a single down the left field line. A bases loaded walk followed by a defensive miscue and wild pitch pushed across three more runs in the inning.

The final two runs of the frame came on an infield single by Dupre and bases loaded walk by Lilli Robertson. The Fillies threatened in the top of the fifth, loading the bases, but relief pitcher Kate Schroeder indued a routine fly ball to left to seal the run rule victory.

Reanna Nieman picked up the win in the circle, scattering four hits in four innings of work.

Things did not go well for Carey in the second game, as ABAC scored nine runs on nine hits in the second inning with Carey not able to find the offense necessary to stop the Fillies from picking up the win.

WCU is back in action Tuesday, March 25, as they head to Montgomery, Ala. to take on Faulkner University in SSAC play. Play is set to begin at 1:00 pm at Wynn Field.
