WCU Swim Host First Ever Meet

BILOXI, Miss. – Men's & women's swimming hosted their first ever meet at the Biloxi Natatorium. The men took care of business against Loyola (La.) beating them 137–86. The women also knocked off Loyola (La.) 142–72 but fell to West Florida 169–65.
 
The men, facing off against only Loyola (La.), opened the day with a win in the Medley Relay. Mate Miszlai, Millen Fehr, Braedan Jacobs, & Balazs Bansagi claimed first place to open the meet.
 
Miszlai continued his fine season as he picked up 3 individual wins. Just like he did last week in the Argonaut Winter Classic, Miszlai claimed 1st place in the 100 & 200-yard Backstroke before going on to take the win in the 200-yard individual medley. Janos Szabo matched Miszlai's performance, earning 3 1st place finishes of his own. Szabo won his 100-yard freestyle sandwiched in between his 100 & 200-yard butterfly gold finishes.
 
Jacobs picked up 2 wins of his own in the two longest races of the day. Jacobs, the team's go to in the long-distance races, picked up 1st place finishes in the 500- & 1000- yard freestyle. Josiah Blankenship added another 1st place finish for the Crusaders in the next distance down, the 200-yard freestyle.
 
The women also took on conference foe Loyola (La.), but also competed against #8 ranked DII West Florida. They opened their day with a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay from Grace Funck, Eszter Kardos, Eva Mangiaracina, & Bisma Khan.
 
Funck finished the day with 3 top 3 finishes. Funck picked up 3rd in the 200-yard backstroke and then went one better finishing 2nd in the 100-yard backstroke. Her last race saw her finish second in the 500-yard freestyle.

Khan & Kardos picked up two top 3 finishes of their own. Khan earned silver in the 50 & 100-yard freestyle. Kardos placed 3rd in the 100-yard breaststroke before doubling the distance and going one better as she picked up 2nd in the 200-yard breaststroke.
 
Mangiaracina and Victoria Murphy picked up the last top 3 finishes of the day. Murphy finished 2nd in the first and longest individual race of the day in the 1000-yard freestyle. Mangiaracina later picked up 3rd place in the 200-yard butterfly.
 
The Crusaders will be back in action as they travel to Ocala, Fla. for the Sun Conference Tournament. The meet is set to take place between February 6th – February 8th.
