HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The William Carey Baseball Team completed the sweep over Brewton-Parker taking both of the Saturday double header 11-7 and 6-4 at Milton Wheeler Field.
Bridley Thomas gave Carey the early lead in game one with a RBI double to right center and would make it 2-0 on a solo homerun in the third. The Barons would tie the game with two runs in the fourth but the Crusaders retook the lead 4-2 in the bottom half of the inning on RBIs by
Braydon Coffey and
Jerod Williams.
BPC would get one run back in the fifth but WCU would score seven runs in the sixth to take a commanding 11-3 lead.
RJ Stinson plated the first run of the inning with
Jake Lycette driving in two with a double to right center.
Bailee Hendon followed with a double of his own to score Lycette.
A
Billy Garrity RBI single to left would score Hendon with Coffey scoring Garrity on a single to center. The final run of the frame would come on a RBI single to right by
Ty Little. The Barons would threaten in the seventh, scoring four runs before relief pitcher
Bobby Magee picked up the final two outs of the innings to end the threat.
In game two, the Crusaders opened with runs in the first three innings.
Caleb Laird would drive in two in the first on a single to center and in the second inning Hendon would pick up an RBI on a bases loaded walk with
Brady Wilson making it 4-0 on a sac fly.
In the third inning, back to back homeruns by
Cam Trosclair and
Brady Logan would make it 6-0 WCU. Brewton-Parker did not back down, picking up two runs in the sixth and would get within two with runs in eighth inning but relief pitcher
John Snyder shut down the threat in the inning and after allowing two runners on base in the ninth induced a groundout to earn the save.
Carey is back in action Wednesday, April 10, as they travel to Livingston, Ala. to take on West Alabama. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 pm.
