MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The William Carey Men's Tennis Team fell 4-2 to Middle Georgia State in the championship match of the SSAC Men's Tennis Championship.
The Crusaders cruised into the finals of the SSAC Championship with a 4-0 victory over Point University on Wednesday and a 4-1 win over Dillard University on Thursday.
Against the Skyhawks, the Crusaders picked up the point at doubles and then got wins from
Matt Shearer,
Antoine Audrain, and
Jean Nicolas Leblanc in singles action to secure the victory.
Against the Blue Devils, Carey once again opened play taking the doubles point. Shearer would make it 2-0 Carey with a 7-5, 6-3 at #2 singles but Dillard would get on the board with a win at #1 singles.
Noah Rockstroh would get WCU within one point of victory with a 6-4, 6-1 win at #3 singles with Leblanc sealing the victory with a 6-0, 6-2 win at #5 singles.
In the finals, just like in the previous matches, Carey started out by claiming the doubles point but the Knights tied the match with a win at #1 singles. Leblanc would put the Crusaders back in front with a 6-4, 6-2 win at #5 singles. However, MGA would get the wins at #6, #2, and #3 singles to secure the win.
