NEW ORLEANS, La. – The William Carey Baseball Team opened up a three game SSAC series with a 12-3 victory over Loyola University Friday night at Turchin Stadium.
After a scoreless first inning, the Crusaders took a commanding lead with five runs on four hits in the second inning.
Caleb Laird drive in the first runoff the inning on a single to the infield with
Jerod Williams driving a ball into right center to make it 3-0.
RJ Stinson would cap the scoring in the inning with a two run shot to left center.
Carey would extend their lead in the fourth, as
Billy Garrity would score on a Laird double to right with Williams bringing home Laird on a double down the leftfield line to make it 6-0 WCU. A sac fly by
Jake Lycette later in the inning would give the Crusaders an eight run lead.
Things would settle down offensively over the next few innings but in the ninth, Carey would put the game away for good with four runs.
Andrew Shirah picked up the win on the mound, allowing just one run on five hits in six innings of work.
WCU is back in action tomorrow, as they wrap up the series with a double header. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
