Lady Crusaders Run Rule BMCU

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The William Carey Softball Team picked up a pair of run rule victories, defeating Blue Mountain Christian 9-1 in both games Saturday afternoon at Joseph & Nancy Fail Field.

Carey got things going offensively in game one in the third inning, as Brooke Tanner led off the inning with a triple and Rachel Rodriguez followed with an RBI single to right to put WCU on the board.  Later in the inning Liz Cross drove in two with a single to center with a defensive miscue making it 4-0 Lady Crusaders.

The bats stayed hot and in the fourth, Carley Kidder made it 6-0 with a double to center with Susie LeBert scoring Kidder with a single to center.  Cross would cap the scoring in the inning with a sac fly to right.  BMCU would get a run in the fifth but Carey responded in the bottom half inning with a run for the run rule victory.

Ryanne Hornsby picked up the win in the circle allowing the one run on four hits.

In game two, the Lady Crusader offense struck early, scoring seven runs on four hits and an error in the first inning.  Kidder drove in the first run with a single to center and would later score on a defensive miscue to make it 2-0.

A bases loaded walk would score the third run with Magen Caro driving in two with a double to left.  Alex Davis would deliver a RBI sac bunt with Tanner capping the scoring on a RBI single to left.  Davis would make it 8-0 in the third and just like in the first game the Toppers would get a run to take the run rule out of play.  However, WCU responded in the bottom half of the inning with a run on a Lilli Robertson RBI double to left to push the lead back to eight

Kate Schroeder earned the win allowing just one run on two hits.

Carey is back in action Friday, March 1, as they head to Gulf Shores, Ala. for the Gulf Coast Invitational.  They will take on Texas A&M at 3:35 pm and Oklahoma Wesleyan at 6:00 pm.
