COCHRAN, Ga. – The William Carey Baseball Team got their Georgia road trip underway in a big way, defeating Middle Georgia State 17-9 Friday afternoon at Stuckey Field.
A bases loaded walk in the first would get the scoring starting for Carey and
Jake Lycette would make it 5-0 WCU with a grandslam to right. J. Lycette would follow up the grandslam with a solo shot in the third and a
Rigoberto Hernandez would out WCU up 7-0 with a RBI single to center.
The WCU offense continued the attack and in the fifth inning
Jerod Williams launched the second grandslam of the game to make it 11-1. The Knights would cut into the deficit in the bottom half of the fifth with five runs on four hits.
However, the Crusaders would answer with a run in the sixth on a
Bailee Hendon solo homerun and in the seventh on RBIs by J. Lycette and
Cam Trosclair to make it an eight run lead. After MGA picked up a run in the eighth, Carey responded with three runs on three hits and an error in the ninth. The Knights would manage to push across three runs in the bottom of the ninth but would get no closer.
Jake Lycette led the offense, finishing with three hits and six RBIs with
Jerod Williams adding two hits with four RBIs.
Luke Lycette picked up the win in relief going four innings, allowing one run on five hits.
Carey is back in action tomorrow, as they wrap up the series with a double header. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 pm at Stuckey Field.
