DECATUR, Ala. – The William Carey Softball Team opened up the 2023 SSAC Softball Championship with a 3-2 victory over Blue Mountain Christian University, Thursday afternoon at the Wilson Morgan Softball Complex.

Kinley Hogue scored the first run for the Lady Crusaders in the second inning, crossing the plate on a Brooke Tanner RBI single.  Rachel Rodriguez followed Tanner with a RBI groundout and Carley Kidder doubled to right to make it 3-0 Carey.

That score would hold until the seventh inning as the Toppers mounted a comeback plating two runs with two outs to get with one run but starting pitcher Haley Nations settled back down and induced a groundout to end the threat.

Nations picked up the win going all seven innings allowing two unearned runs on five hits with eight strikeouts.

WCU is back in action tomorrow, as they take on Middle Georgia State at 10:00 am.
