WEST POINT, Ga. – The William Carey Baseball Team outlasted Point University, defeating the Skyhawks 21-16 Wednesday afternoon.
The Crusaders jumped out quickly, getting RBIs in the top of the first from
Preston Ratliff,
Billy Garrity (2),
Brady Wilson, and
Caleb Laird to take a 5-0 lead. However, Point answered in the bottom half of the inning with a grand slam to cut the deficit to one.
Both teams traded runs in the second but Carey took a commanding 16-5 lead with 10 runs in the third.
The Crusaders would get one run in the sixth on a
Patrick Lee solo homerun but Point responded with five runs in the bottom of the sixth to cut the deficit to 17-12. WCU got their final runs of the game on a two RBI single by Stinson in the seventh and a Lee two run homer in the ninth.
Point threatened in the ninth getting four runs on a two run homer and a Carey error but relief pitcher
Lane Jarreau was able to work out the jam to secure the win.
WCU is back in action Friday, as they open up SSAC play against Talladega College. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 pm at Milton Wheeler Field.
