GULF SHORES, Ala. - #12 William Carey softball went 1-1 on day two of the GCI, falling to Baker University 8-0 in five innings and defeating Texas A&M University-San Antonio 5-2, Saturday afternoon at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex.
In their first game of the day against Baker, the Wildcats jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first, then added a run in the fourth, before finishing things off with three runs in the fifth. BU kept the Lady Crusader offense in check limiting Carey to only two hits.
In game two, the Jaguars took the lead with a run in the first and another in the third. Carey was kept off the board till the fifth inning when they finally got things goings, scoring five runs on four hits. A couple of defensive miscues would give Carey the lead with
Ryanne Hornsby scoring two with a single to center.
TAMUSA threatened in the seventh loading the bases with two outs but Hornsby worked out of the jam to secure the win.
Carey is back in action tomorrow as they wrap up play in the GCI with games against Freed-Hardeman University (Tenn.) at 11:15 am and Thomas University at 1:30 pm.
